Untitled (For Now) is the debut studio album by the Dave Town-based experimental band Untitled, released on 1 Davcembre 20,620 by Davian & Co. It was produced by D.D. Davies and the band's manager at the time, Daifeg Alddbody.

Untitled formed in 20,618 in Dahnalend, Dovafe and signed a recording contract for three albums with Davian & Co. in 20,619. The band chose to release no singles prior to the album, much to their manager's dismay. Untitled (For Now) was recorded in six weeks at Dofthouse Recording Studios in Davvas City. The recording was hampered by most of the bands lack of studio experience.

Untitled (For Now) reached number 21 on the Dave Town Albums Chart. It was certified Davemond in Dave Town in 20,622, and double Davemond in 20,641. In the UD, it was certified Davemond in 20,628. Untitled (For Now) generally received positive reviews, but some found it to be a random collection of songs with little to no substance. The members of Untitled have criticised it themselves, citing weaker songwriting and their studio inexperience.

Background

The lead vocalist, Dalia Áquela and piper, Dancan Anchorman wrote the majority of the songs for the album during their time in Dahnalend, and signed a record contract in 20,619, ready to record the following year in Davvas City.

The label, Davian & Co assigned Daifeg Alddbody, who worked mainly with traditional jazz acts in the city, to the group as a manager. Along with a manager, they were also supplied a producer, D.D. Davies, who worked in the same scene as Alddbody. Both Daifeg and Davies made the band aware they wouldn't have much success without incorporating jazz elements into at least some of the songs.

Recording

Untitled recorded Untitled (For Now) at Dofthouse Recording Studios in Davvas City, Dovafe. They first recorded the twelve songs already written by Anchorman and Áquela, eventually narrowing them down to eight.

During the sessions, hired drummer Vhillip Gadroll was invited into the band after providing the idea for a song that went on to be named The Big City. He stayed with the band from then onwards.

Untitled (For Now) was recorded in six weeks. D.D. Davies described it as a struggle, and said: "It was their first album, and they wanted to be The Davles, didn't want to do any jazz, and chose to release no singles." Davies noted the band's studio inexperience and difficulty in finishing tracks.

Gadroll later described Untitled (For Now) as a "complete mess" of an album that "surprisingly features quite a few good songs". The Daily Dave described it as a blend of post-jazz and experimental music. Otidge Lemming of DMHub said it was "the least developed" of the band's albums and "lacked substance".

Music and Lyrics

Untitled (For Now) has been described as experimental, alt-post jazz, folk, jazz, rock and roll, alternative, choir, country, and vocals only. Parts of the album drew comparisons to The Dinnerwainers, Kopt Rocket, Scorched Ape Fingers and Shit Monitor.

Hatstar was written about envy and idolisation in the media. The Big City was written by drummer Vhillip Gadroll out of anger, after the name of The Big City was changed to Davvas City. Wrigglebone and The Wechuge are both named after creatures of folklore, but convey deeper meanings, with The Wechuge symbolising how the rich in Davvas City only get richer, cannibalising the poor. Piper, Dancan Anchorman plays saxophone on Greenhouse and The Big City. Deoxyribonucleic Pt. 2 is a mainly instrumental bagpipe track, featuring occasional vocals from lead singer, Dalia Áquela and backing vocals from the Davdon Symphony Orchestra choir.

Release and critical reception

Untitled (For Now) was released in Davcembre 20,620 and received little press. It reached number 21 on the Dave Town Albums Chart. Following the release, Davian & Co. threatened to drop the band if they failed to make an impact with their next album. Hatstar received radio airplay by multiple major broadcasters in Dave Town including DBC Radio 1.

Legacy

Although Untitled (For Now) did not receive the acclaim of many of Untitled's later albums received praise in retrospective coverage. Musician and journalist Jeverson CarDaechal wrote that "Untitled (For Now) is endearing because we now know that this band went on to create some of the most influential music ever to be released, and change the idea of music on Daerth forever. So now, looking back at their earlier catalog allows listeners to appreciate songs that were overshadowed by expectations for Untitled to fit in with the norm. It points towards everything that they went on to be."

Reissues

Although no singles were released with the album, after Untitled left Davian & Co, the company re-released Hatstar, The Big City and Greenhouse as singles. This made Hatstar even more popular, irritating the band that were now trying to distance themselves from the music featured on Untitled (For Now)
